Cameron Murray of Glendora High has made an oral commitment to attend USC, becoming the Trojans’ first early basketball recruit for the 1994-95 season.

Murray, a 6-foot senior point guard, considered 12 colleges, among them UCLA, where his older brother, Tracy, was a two-time All-Pacific 10 Conference selection. Tracy Murray plays for the Portland Trail Blazers.

Cameron Murray said he was interested in UCLA, but did not want to compete for playing time with point guards Tyus Edney and Cameron Dollar.

Murray said he narrowed his decision to USC and California and chose the Trojans because he wanted to be near his home.

“I feel very comfortable with Coach (George) Raveling and I want the opportunity to play in front of my family and friends,” he said.

Murray, who averaged 27.7 points a game as a junior, is considered one of the top 40 recruits in the nation.
