Cypress had its best season in women’s soccer last year when the Chargers won the Orange Empire Conference title and finished 16-2. With talented incoming freshmen such as Russell, the success figures to continue. Russell was a three-time All-Freeway League pick at Sunny Hills. She had two goals and two assists in four games at the Bakersfield SoccerFest for Cypress, which was 3-0-1. The Chargers had the best record of the 13 teams at the event. Russell, who is one of the fastest players on the team, has three goals and three assists.

Other notables:

* Kim Foster and Lisa Mote of Golden West finished first and second at the Orange Empire Conference Cross-Country Festival.

* Donna Proia of Irvine Valley finished third in the same race as the Lasers won the team title.
