Vans Reports Profit and Sales Down for Quarter

Vans Inc., the Orange shoe manufacturer, reported a profit of $893,000, or 9 cents a share, for the first quarter of its fiscal year.

That compared to earnings of $2.5 million, or 26 cents a share, for the same period last year. Sales for the three months ended Aug. 29 declined 15% to $21.3 million from $25 million.
