Norwalk-La Mirada : School Board Member Opts Out of November Race

A Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District board member has bowed out of the race for reelection, citing political infighting among fellow trustees.

Armando A. Moreno Jr. announced his intention last month to run for his seat on the board. Last week, however, he decided to pull out of the race.

“I’m tired of the politics,” said Moreno, 52, an employment counselor for the Mexican-American Opportunity Foundation in Commerce.

Moreno was the target of an unsuccessful recall attempt last year, which he accused other board members of supporting. He said he was fed up with what he called increasing contentiousness among members of the board.

Seven other candidates, including incumbents Jesse M. Luera and Lupe Flores McClintock, are running for four seats on the school board. Although he has pulled out of the race, Moreno’s name will still appear on the Nov. 2 ballot, school officials said.

Moreno said he plans to remarry Nov. 6 and wants to devote more time to his family.
