BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Polonia Ponders Final Home Game

Share

Left fielder Luis Polonia took a final look around the Angel clubhouse Thursday, wondering if he’ll be back.

“This might have been my last game in an Angel home uniform,” Polonia said. “I couldn’t help but think about that last night. I may be back at the stadium, but I could be dressing in the visitors’ clubhouse.”

Polonia has told the Angels that he wants a three-year, $9-million contract or a four-year, $11-million deal to avoid free agency. The Angels say they won’t pay Polonia $3 million a year.

“If I go somewhere else,” Polonia said, “it will be because I want to go, not that I’m forced to go. They can’t intimidate me.

“But this still is the place I want to be. This is a team that made me somebody. I played in Oakland and New York, and it was a disaster. This was the team that made me a player.”

“But that doesn’t mean I’m going to play for free, either.”
