Injury Forces Bradley to Look to Next Year

Freddie Bradley’s final college football season has been placed on hold.

Bradley, a record-setting running back at Moorpark College in 1989 and ‘90, will apply for a medical redshirt year to allow his sore right knee to heal, officials at Sonoma State said Thursday.

Last week, in his first appearance for Sonoma since transferring to the Division II school from Arkansas, Bradley gained 24 yards in five carries against St. Mary’s. However, in succeeding days, his knee was extremely sore.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound senior suffered cartilage damage in his knee while playing basketball. He had arthroscopic surgery in May. Bradley will maintain a season of NCAA Division II eligibility as long as he does not complete 10 semesters as a full-time student by next fall.

Johnny Mack and Dave Hansen are expected to share ballcarrying duties for Sonoma (0-2), which will meet Cal State Northridge (0-3) on Saturday at 7 p.m. in a nonconference game at North Campus Stadium.
