Boosted by the exposure on the current Neil Young tour, Booker T. & the MG’s are set to release their first album in years this spring, an all-instrumental collection tentatively titled “Mo’ Greens.” Among the tracks getting the MG’s treatment are U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” Bob Dylan’s “Gotta Serve Somebody,” Ann Peebles’ “I Can’t Stand the Rain” and the Temptations’ “Just My Imagination,” plus some originals. . . .

Bob Dylan is releasing his second consecutive album of traditional folk songs. “World Gone Wrong,” due Oct. 26, consists entirely of Dylan performing solo acoustic, as on last year’s “Good as I Been to You” album. Dave Stewart has produced a video for Dylan’s version of the song “Blood in My Eyes.” . . .

Ice Cube is branching into video directing, working this week in L.A. with pals Color Me Badd on a clip for the group’s “Time and Chance,” the title song from its new album. The single is due Oct. 19 and the album, featuring bass work by P-Funk veteran Bootsy Collins, is due Nov. 16. . . .

The on-again off-again U.S. Velvet Underground tour is apparently up in the air right now, though talk is that if the reunited band plays L.A., there will be one big show (possibly at the Universal Amphitheatre) and a special night in a club (either the Roxy or the Whisky). The Velvets just taped an “MTV Unplugged” concert in London. . . .

Other influential New York acts are being lined up for a series of concerts honoring the 20th anniversary of the seminal CBGBs club. Members of Talking Heads and Blondie are expected to perform, though there’s no word on whether those bands will reunite for the events. The Ramones, Helmet and Television are also expected to perform. . . .

Reggae artists the Wailing Souls, Supercat, Tiger and Tony Rebel head a lineup for a concert tour tied to the upcoming film “Cool Runnings,” the story of the Jamaican Olympic bobsled team. The tour is expected to reach L.A. in December. . . . The new Pogues album, “Waiting for Herb,” is available as a British import, but the U.S. label Chameleon will release it in late October. With Shane MacGowan no longer with the band, Spider Stacy now handles the bulk of the lead vocals. Henry Rollins has just finished filming a featured role as a “stupid cop” in “The Chase,” a movie co-starring Charlie Sheen and Kristy (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) Swanson, due early next year. A new Rollins Band album is due around the same time.
