TUSTIN : Contract Awarded for Tests at New Gym
The City Council has awarded a $20,000 contract to a Modesto-based contractor to conduct inspections and soil testing at the Columbus Tustin gymnasium, which is currently under construction.
Acting as the Redevelopment Agency, the council last week picked Construction Testing and Engineering Inc. from among five bidders to do the routine construction testing work.
Construction of the $1.6-million gymnasium on the northwest corner of Columbus Tustin Park, near Beneta Way and Prospect Avenue, started this month and is expected to be finished in a year, said Recreation Supervisor Gary Magill.
The gymnasium will be available for basketball and volleyball tournaments, sports clinics, senior citizen and adult classes and vacation sports camps. It could also be used for after-school programs for students from grades six to eight.
City-sponsored classes currently held in leased facilities will be transferred to the gym. These include gymnastics, judo, yoga, baton, adult and children dance classes and aerobics.
Braaksma-Himme Inc. of the City of Industry is building the gymnasium, which will be operated by the Community Services Department.
