A 3-year-old Thousand Oaks boy was in critical condition Wednesday night after being struck by a passing pickup truck when he darted into a quiet, narrow residential street, sheriff’s officials said.

The boy, whose name was withheld because of his age and condition, suffered severe head injuries from the accident and was placed on a life-support system late Wednesday at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, officials said.

He was transferred hours later to the pediatric intensive care unit at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, where a supervisor listed his condition as critical.

Sheriff’s detectives said Michael Alan Marsh, a 23-year-old Simi Valley resident, was traveling west on Brossard Avenue about 6 p.m. when the child ran into the path of his vehicle.

Police said they have no reason to file charges against Marsh. “At this point, we’re just calling it a collision,” said Sgt. Terry Hughes. “We don’t have any evidence to the contrary.”
