* In response to “Yeltsin Dissolves Parliament; Defiant Members Impeach Him in Showdown,” Sept. 22:

Democracy beats communism, but the Russians are learning the hard way that it takes toil and trouble.

With Russia disunited into independent, hardly contented states, Boris Yeltsin is fighting a “one man” battle to give capitalism a chance. Should the military step in, a greater Bosnian holocaust could occur. The Russian people deserve to determine their own future; free elections are the only way. Rule by force is as good as anarchy.

* Ronald Reagan could have done no better! The Russian Parliament, elected by the people, seeks to depose a would-be dictator and our President offers help, as usual, to the wrong party (“Clinton Calls Yeltsin, Offers U.S. Support,” Sept. 22).

* Can you imagine what a blessing it would be for America if Bill Clinton could throw caution to the winds and learn from Yeltsin’s cleverness (Sept. 25)?

He could get rid of our squander-maniacal Congress, which put us $4 trillion in debt, by simply: cutting off the electricity; shutting off the hot water; canceling free airline, rail and bus tickets; surrounding the Capitol and letting people out but not in, and offering productive jobs, if any could qualify, in government or government-owned institutions to those who quit.

When new elections for Congress are then held, would the candidates have gotten the message? Would we get another squander-maniacal Congress? I think not.
