Fall’s regal and dandy looks herald accessories such as St. John’s heraldic brooches (about $65). Of 22-karat gold electroplate and black enamel, they feature such coats of arm symbols as Formee crosses, fleurs-de-lis and the family crest--in this case the SJ logo. “The classic crest pin is one of our favorite pieces we use to accessorize,” says Kelly Gray, senior VP and creative director of the Irvine-based label. “It always looks modern, yet it represents the look of classic style.”

Making Scents

“If a woman can get very beautiful and sexy with a perfume, why can’t a man?” asks Jean-Paul Guerlain, the master nose of his family’s 165-year-old namesake fragrance house. Visiting from Paris recently for a bottle-signing reception at Neiman Marcus in Fashion Island Newport Beach, Guerlain was also on hand to launch his latest creation for men--Heritage. On his inspiration for the new scent: “What’s left of a woman when she’s in the dark besides her femininity, her voice and the way she smells? I thought the same can apply to men.”

Vestal Artists

Fascination with angels, Byzantine art and religious historical motifs inspired Laguna artists Pamme Turner and Joanna Giangardella earlier this year to apply their favorite images to clothes of raw silk. The difference now, however, is that those very things are so in vogue. “It seems to fit right in all of a sudden,” Turner says. The lined vests, which the duo see “as more of a canvas surface than fashion,” are screened with antique images. They are then hand-painted and hand-dyed ($72 to $90).

Don’t Be Ghoul

With only 30 days to Hallow’s Eve, there’s no reason to wait a minute more to start cutting that costume. And in case you’re planning to trick or treat through Memphis . . . or Vegas, Simplicity has got the only authentic Elvis Presley costume pattern for boys and men. Through an exclusive licensing agreement with Graceland, the pattern house has the blueprints to the skin-tight jumpsuit that the King so dangerously donned during those “Viva” years. According to sources, it’s “a direct copy,” complete with signature details such as the high collar and wide belt. Suggestion: try white spandex.
