The Region : 5 Teachers in State Contest

Five San Gabriel Valley schoolteachers are among the 12 instructors named last week to represent Los Angeles County in the 1994 California Teacher of the Year contest, officials said.

The 12 will be among a group of candidates from around the state who will be evaluated by a committee. That panel will name five finalists Oct. 22. One will be chosen to represent California in the national contest.

The San Gabriel Valley nominees are Louis Anthony Sergio, West Covina Unified School District; Rosemary Ann Adam, Claremont Unified; Greg Morrison, Glendora Unified; Kari Farr Braun, Walnut Valley Unified, and Priscilla M. Tedesco, Arcadia Unified.

The seven other Los Angeles County nominees are Sidnie Myrick, Glendale Unified School District; Beth Cassford, Little Lake City district; Patricia N. Hodges, Whittier Union High School District; Vivian L. Spiglanin, Redondo Beach Unified; Sylvia Kerschner, county education office’s alternative education division; Marilyn Clara Wirth Scaife, Las Virgenes Unified, and Virginia Eileen Gregor, William S. Hart Union High School District.
