MOORPARK : Council to Decide on Cat Licensing

Share

The Moorpark City Council Wednesday will decide whether its city will become the first city in Ventura County to require cats to be licensed in the same way as dogs.

The city currently uses the money gained from dog licensing to cover the majority of the cost of its contract with Ventura County Animal Regulation, which provides care for lost or abandoned animals in the city.

Because the county agency now spends more time dealing with cats than dogs, Councilman Scott Montgomery said it is time for the city to recoup some of the costs through mandating that the animals be licensed.

The council will discuss the matter at its meeting beginning at 7 p.m. in City Hall, 799 Moorpark Ave.
