Residents interested in being considered for a vacant seat on the Lowell Joint Elementary School District board of trustees have until Friday to submit their applications.
The board decided Sept. 27 to avoid a costly special election and appoint a successor to trustee Joyce Canfield, who died July 6 at age 58 after a 10-year battle with cancer.
Any district resident who is registered to vote may apply. The school district, which serves portions of Whittier, La Habra Heights, La Habra and nearby unincorporated areas, will conduct interviews in October and November and choose a new trustee by December, Supt. Ronald T. Randolph said. The new board member will serve out the remainder of Canfield's term, which ends Dec. 2, 1994.
