Oxnard police are investigating a carjacking in which a group of teen-agers yanked a 17-year-old girl from her van, struck her in the face and then drove away in the vehicle.

The incident was reported to police at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday. The victim, whose name was not released, told police that she was driving in the area of Bard and Saviers roads when a group of people stood in the street, blocking her path.

After attacking her, they drove off in the van, which police later found abandoned in the 2300 block of South K Street. The victim refused medical treatment, police said.

Police spokesman David Keith said there have been half a dozen reported carjackings in Oxnard during the past year. The most recent one occurred in late August when four men forced an Oxnard man from his pickup in La Colonia after striking him in the head with a beer bottle and holding a screwdriver to his throat.
