Tom Shaw, whose only top-10 finish this year was a victory in the Tradition, shot his second consecutive four-under-par 68 Saturday and took a one-stroke lead over Simon Hobday in the Transamerica Senior Golf Championship at Napa.

Shaw’s 36-hole total is eight-under 136 on the 6,632-yard south course at Silverado Country Club.

Hobday carded the tournament’s lowest round, a 66.

Lee Trevino (70), Chi Chi Rodriguez (69), Gary Player (69) and Al Geiberger (69) are only two strokes out of the lead going into today’s final round.

Shaw had nine pars on the front and trailed Trevino by one stroke at the turn. The first of five birdies on the back nine came when he made a 33-foot putt on No. 10.

Hobday, also seeking his second victory of the year, said the player to watch may be sitting in the pack of four at 138. “Trevino’s on a roll,” Hobday said. “You have to look for him to make a run.”

Craig Stadler was one of the lucky players at the rain-delayed Walt Disney World-Oldsmobile Classic at Lake Buena Vista.

He got in the last six holes of the second round of the PGA Tour event in the morning, then shot a four-under-par 68 to grab a share of the early third-round lead before an afternoon thunderstorm stopped play for the second day in a row.

Not only was much of the field still scattered over three courses being used for the tournament, but Jeff Maggert and Skip Kendall--two-thirds of the trio that led after 36 holes--hadn’t even started the third round.

That means some players will have to play 36 holes today if tournament officials meet a goal of getting in 72 holes without delaying the finish until Monday.

Stadler and Ed Humenik, who shot a 70, share the 54-hole clubhouse lead at 13-under 203.

But while they had the lowest scores among the nine players who completed the third round, Keith Clearwater was the leader on the course at 17-under with one hole left.
