John John Molina knocked out Bernard Taylor in the eighth round at San Juan, Puerto Rico, to retain his International Boxing Federation junior lightweight title. Molina, of Puerto Rico, did not encounter much opposition from Taylor, of Knoxville, Tenn. Molina, 33-3-0 with 24 knockouts, had hinted that this fight could be considered his farewell to the division. He expects to fight in the lightweight division and meet Miguel Gonzalez for that title. Taylor is 45-3-2.

Bill Barron, football coach at Odessa High School in Texas, has barred the Odessa American from the dressing rooms and practice for what he called “negative coverage.” The coach also forbid his coaches and players from talking to the newspaper. The newspaper retaliated by running white space where it usually runs Broncho game advances.

The disagreement began last Sunday when the newspaper revealed three Odessa High players, including both backup quarterbacks, had left the team. Barron had earlier told reporters that the departures were “for disciplinary and other reasons.” Barron said that everyone agreed not to run a story on why the players were not suited up. Editors at the newspaper changed their minds and printed the reason the players didn’t suit up.
