SANTA ANA : Breast Health Focus of Awareness Fair

Share

Local physicians, health-care specialists and a breast-cancer survivor will be among the participants in a Breast Health Awareness Fair on Oct. 23.

The three-hour program, which starts at 9 a.m., will be at Johnson Campus Center, 1350 West 17th St. at Rancho Santiago College. Admission and parking are free.

Health-care organizations and experts recommend that all women begin having periodic mammograms at the age of 40. The examination is vital to detect breast cancer in its early stages, which can significantly increase the chances for successful treatment, say experts.

However, a recent survey by the College of Medicine at UC Irvine found that nearly 25% of Orange County women age 60 and over have never had a mammogram.
