In a new twist for Ventura County flu prevention, those seeking immunizations in Ojai can roll down their windows and roll up their sleeves at Ojai Valley Community Hospital’s drive-through flu shot clinic.

“You drive up, fill out a form, get your shot, and then you’re off,” said Laura Ball, Ojai Valley Community Hospital’s flu clinic coordinator. “I don’t know if it’s going to work, but we thought it might make it easier for seniors.”

Ojai’s flu clinic is one of many free Influenza Immunizations Clinics that will be held throughout the county.

Ventura County public health officials are predicting that the flu season will start earlier and hit harder than in past years. They recommend immunizations for those over the age of 55, and people with chronic medical problems.

“These are the people who are most vulnerable to influenza,” said Gloria Chinea, manager of patient and community education for St. John’s Regional Medical Center. “This year the strain is approaching sooner so we’re trying to immunize sooner.”
