Share

With its first-year anniversary nearing in November, the Glendale Teen Support Center is celebrating a month early by holding a theater party and fund-raiser next Monday, officials said.

The center, located at 115 E. Lexington Ave., provides a place for teen-agers to congregate after school Mondays through Thursdays. Activities range from chess and crossword puzzles to tutoring during the school year.

“I think it’s going great,” said Sheila Ellis, the center’s founder. “We are very pleased how things are working. We’re growing, learning. . . . We’re very excited about the program.”

Monday’s celebration will start with a 6:30 p.m. reception at the center. By 7:30 p.m., those attending the event will be escorted to the Glendale Center Theatre, 324 N. Orange St., where they will see a special performance of “Steel Magnolias,” Ellis said.

During the intermission, the center’s staff will recognize two people in the community for their contribution to the after-school program, she said.

Tickets for the event cost $20 per person. For more information, contact the center at (818) 547-5725.
