Appointment of Gullikson Expected

Tom Gullikson is expected to be named as the new U.S. Davis Cap captain today. The United States Tennis Assn. has scheduled a news conference this morning in New York where all indications are Gullikson will be introduced as Tom Gorman’s successor.

Gullikson works for the USTA as a coach in the player development program, which he joined when it began in 1988, and worked with such players as Jim Courier, Todd Martin and Jennifer Capriati.

Gullikson’s selection is viewed as a compromise between Stan Smith and John McEnroe, who withdrew as a candidate for the position last week.
