Planners to Review Boulevard Blueprint

Share

The Los Angeles Planning Commission today will review the long-term blueprint for change along Ventura Boulevard--an ambitious plan threatened by a sluggish economy and high costs.

Just three years after its adoption, the Ventura Boulevard Specific Plan already is being criticized over the way it levies fees to fund improvements, such as traffic signals and street widening, to handle new development.

Several builders have appealed the amount that they are being asked to pay and many community leaders are suggesting fundamental changes in the way the plan is financed. Without those changes, some fear that the 20-year plan may fall apart.
