Malibu : Trash Contract Extended

Share

Trash from residences in the city’s east end will continue to be collected for two more years under an agreement with Los Angeles County, the City Council decided this week.

The Malibu Garbage Disposal District, which covers more than 2,500 homes and apartments between the Civic Center area and Topanga Canyon Boulevard, was formed in the 1940s and has been administered by the county.

City Engineer John Knipe told the council on Monday that there was no financial reason to end the county’s adminstration of the district when the contract with waste haulers expires in June, 1994.

The rates paid by residents under the contract are lower than those paid by residents elsewhere in the city, he said.

Residents in the garbage disposal district pay $10 per month for two weekly pickups, while west-end residents pay $18 for weekly service.
