Woolworth Delays Store-Closing Disclosure: Woolworth Corp. said it would not immediately release a list of the 970 stores it plans to close. The company had said such a list would be released the day after it announced the plan to close 970 Woolworth and Kinney stores and eliminate 13,000 jobs. The New York-based retailer, which is trying to develop more specialty stores, has said that as many as 250 of the targeted stores will be transformed and reopened under more profitable formats. A Woolworth statement said the company was willing to respond to questions about the fate of specific stores nationwide, but the retailer did not immediately respond to queries about certain store locations in California. There are 135 Woolworth and Kinney stores in California.
