Authorities on Thursday continued to search for a burglary suspect who knocked down a police officer with his car, prompting the officer to fire four shots at the vehicle.

The incident occurred Wednesday evening in the parking lot of an office tower in the Irvine Spectrum complex, Sgt. Gary Shull said.

The officer suffered a slight injury to a lower leg but did not require hospitalization, Shull said.

He said that police were called to the building about 6 p.m. by an office worker who reported that a man “who looked out of place” was in the building.

As the officer interviewed witnesses, the suspect left the building and walked toward his car. The officer was knocked down by the suspect’s vehicle as it was leaving the parking lot, Shull said.

The officer fired four shots at the car, shattering the window on the driver’s side, Shull said. Police do not know if the bullets hit the suspect. The man is suspected of taking money from several wallets in the offices, police said.
