SUNSET LEAGUE FOOTBALL : Huntington Beach Wakes Up, Shuts Out Servite

Share

For one quarter Thursday night, Huntington Beach played like a team looking ahead to next week.

But the host Oilers overcame two early turnovers and rolled to a 20-0 victory over Servite behind two touchdowns by running back Justin Flagg.

Huntington Beach (6-0, 3-0), which faces league rival Fountain Valley next week, lost two fumbles in the first 13 minutes but took control early in the second quarter. Josh Holland intercepted a pass by Servite’s Dan Baine at the Friar 28, and returned it 15 yards to the 13. Three plays later, quarterback Levi Schuck hit Chris Yadrick on a slant for a 14-yard touchdown pass.

Then, Flagg took over. On Servite’s next possession, he recovered a fumble by running back David Bedard on the Friar 20. Two plays later, he scored on a four-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0.

“The coaches were well-prepared, and the kids did a good job on three days preparation,” Huntington Beach Coach George Pascoe said.
