FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Rummage Proceeds to Repair Gym Floor

Share

A rummage sale, dubbed as the “largest ever,” will held today at the Pace Membership Warehouse to benefit the Fountain Valley High School gym.

Donated items--from books, dishes, clothing and furniture--will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Pace Warehouse, 17099 Brookhurst St.

The sale is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Proceeds will go toward repairing the gym’s hardwood floor, which was vandalized beyond repair in July. Damage was estimated at $200,000 but the school must raise $25,000 to cover the insurance deductible.

Kimberly Draman, Pace marketing manager, said the event will be held rain or shine. So far, about $3,500 has been raised from raffle tickets. The $1 raffle tickets will be available at the event.

Receipts will also be given for tax-deductible donations and pickup for large items is available by calling Pace Warehouse at (714) 968-9782.

Fountain Valley High School Principal Gary Ernst said about $10,000 has been raised through two other fund-raisers and donations from local corporations. A dinner to raise funds is planned for Oct. 24 at Silky Sullivan’s Restaurant and Irish Pub, 10201 Slater Ave. in Fountain Valley.

Ernst said the school is waiting for wood to be delivered to begin rebuilding the gym’s floor. Construction is expected to be completed by Jan. 1, he said.
