News, Tips & Bargains : Museum to Open at J.F.K. Library

A new $5-million museum featuring extensive use of film and audiotape of J.F.K. will open to the public Oct. 30 at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston, Mass.

The facility is designed to give visitors a “you are there” sense of immediacy, said Charles Daly, Kennedy Library director. “In designing it, we kept in mind those under 40 who have no personal recollection of the Kennedy Administration.”

Twenty-five new exhibits, many incorporating the President’s voice, detail the sights and sounds of the Kennedy years, including his victory at the Democratic National Convention, the televised debate with Richard Nixon and the events surrounding the Cuban missile crisis.

The new museum is part of a $6-million yearlong renovation of the library, which was designed by I.M. Pei and overlooks Boston’s harbor and skyline.

The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and students, and $2 for children ages 6-16. More information is available by calling (617) 929-4523.
