THOUSAND OAKS : Cal Lutheran to Hold Founder’s Convocation

Share

California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks will celebrate its 34th annual Founder’s Day Convocation on Friday with guest speakers, an award presentation and performances by the university choir.

The annual event honors the founding fathers of the university, said Lynda Fulford, a Cal Lutheran spokeswoman.

Every Founder’s Day, the 100 members of the university’s convocation--which represents students and faculty as well as business and community interests--elect 11 of the college’s 34-member Board of Regents, she said. The Rev. Otto Bremer, an author, educator and Lutheran minister teaching ethics and economics at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, will be the keynote speaker.

The university will also give the Christus Award to Gaylord Mercer, a Honolulu resident who is active in church and community affairs and has served as a Cal Lutheran convocator since the early 1970s. For more information, call 493-3151.
