COSTA MESA : College to Sponsor Immigration Event

Starting Tuesday, Orange Coast College is sponsoring a two-day session of speaking events that focuses on immigration in the United States. The events are free and open to the public.

Featured speakers will be Mark P. Petracca, a UC Irvine political scientist, and former U.S. Senate candidate and Nixon White House aide Bruce Herschensohn.

The events are part of the community college’s Visiting Scholars in Residence Program. The title of this year’s sessions featuring Petracca and Herschensohn is “Can Democracy Survive Diversity? Reflections on Tensions at Home and Abroad.”

Petracca launches the sessions with a talk and question-and-answer session at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Orange Coast College’s Robert B. Moore Theatre, in the 2700 block of Fairview Road.

A follow-up symposium will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the same place; four panelists will grill Petracca regarding his Tuesday remarks on diversity.

A debate between Petracca and Herschensohn is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the theater. The debate topic: “Is American Foreign Policy What It Ought to Be?”
