O.C. Supervisor Vasquez Is Hospitalized After Car Accident

Orange County Supervisor Gaddi H. Vasquez was hospitalized Sunday after he was involved in a two-car automobile accident near his home.

Jim Knapp, spokesman for the supervisor, said doctors believe Vasquez suffered a concussion in the accident. But he said the supervisor did not appear to have any other injuries and that he might be released as early as today. from St. Joseph Hospital in Orange.

“I’ve talked to him,” Knapp said from the hospital late Sunday night. “He appears lucid, alert. They just want to make sure of things. They’re pretty sure it’s a concussion.”

Vasquez was hit by a motorist who ran a red light at the intersection of Brynhurst Raod and Canyon View Avenue in Orange at 7:21 p.m., Orange Police Lt. Art Romo said. No citations were issued Sunday night, Romo said. The other motorist, who was not identified, was treated and released from St. Joseph Hospital.

Knapp said the supervisor was alone in his car when he was hit by the other vehicle.

Vasquez, who has served as a county supervisor for six years, was driving from his home in Orange to a speaking engagement in Newport Beach when the accident occurred. Knapp said the supervisor was scheduled to speak about the economy to a group of timber industry executives.
