Karis Chi, Janet Chung, Peter Huang and Melissa Soo Hoo, four Rowland High School seniors from Rowland Heights, have been selected to attend the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington this month.
Chi is president of the Spanish Club, a member of the National Honor Society, a National Merit Scholar and a member of the Rowland High tennis team.
Chung is a member of the academic decathlon team, the speech team and the tennis team. She is also a volunteer at Pomona Valley Medical Center.
Huang is treasurer of the Spanish Club and active in church functions.
Soo Hoo is president of the Academic Competition Club, a member of the forensics team, California Scholarship Federation and the school choir. She is also a volunteer at the Rowland Heights Public Library.
The National Young Leaders Conference is sponsored by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, a nonprofit, nonpartisan educational organization.

Ten Walnut High School seniors have been named Commended Students in the 1994 National Merit Scholarship program. These students have shown exceptional academic promise by placing among the top 5% of more than 1 million students who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in 1992.
The Ten Commended Students are John Chiu, Annie Hsu, John W. Kim, Lisa Kim, Janelle Miaw, Chanin Petprasit, Dileepan Sivapathasundaram, Sandeep Sood, Harrison Tsai and Shaowen Wu.
