THOUSAND OAKS : Neighborhood Watch to Honor Ed Davis

A coalition of Neighborhood Watch leaders this Saturday will honor former state Sen. Ed Davis of Santa Clarita, who founded the community crime prevention program during his tenure as chief of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Davis will receive an award from representatives of some of Thousand Oaks’ 70 Neighborhood Watch groups at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Oak Knoll Villa, 300 McCloud Ave.

Davis, who headed the LAPD from 1969 to 1978, founded Neighborhood Watch almost a quarter-century ago--but has never been honored for his innovation, said Thousand Oaks resident Gina Lane, who helped organize the ceremony.

Saturday’s meeting will also feature presentations from other crime prevention experts, including the leader of Operation Protect, a coalition of several hundred San Fernando Valley residents who police their communities.

Jan Sener, a director of the California Crime Prevention Officers’ Assn., will make a brief speech.

The reception is limited to Neighborhood Watch block captains and active participants. For more information, call Lane at 498-6382.
