Canadian Film Fest Set for Weekend

Canadian First People’s Film Festival, a two-day visual arts celebration of the filmmaking achievements of Native Canadians, will be held at the Southwest Museum during the weekend, starting Saturday at 2 p.m. with a panel discussion, which will be followed by a screening of “Medicine River,” described as the first romantic comedy set in Canada’s native community.

Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., the museum will present more films, while at USC there will be an additional program, “Cultural Resistance and Cultural Survival” held throughout the weekend.

On Monday and Tuesday, “Scenes Through the Native Eye: Films By and About Canada’s First People” will be presented at Cal State, Los Angeles.
