COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : UCLA : Bennett Suffers Setback of Sorts

Share

It has been a down week for Tommy Bennett, who covers against the pass for UCLA, which is preparing to play Oregon State, a team that doesn’t pass.

“I’m alternating at free safety and still fighting for a starting free safety position,” said Bennett, a sophomore. “Right now, Travis Collier has it, but I’m right there on his heels.”

Collier got the job from Bennett after the season opener, against California. Bennett, then the starter, had trouble in coverage on two Cal touchdown passes in the first half, was demoted soon thereafter and has been playing his way back since.
