FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Lima Bean Fest Is Planned Sunday

It’s that time of year again for the annual Lima Bean Fest, sponsored by the Historical Society at Callens’ Ranch Headquarters.

The Lima Bean Fest begins at noon Sunday and features a menu of Callens’ home-grown lima beans with ham, cooked by two of the city’s longtime residents, Hazel Courreges and Evelyn Wardlow. Also on the menu are green salad, corn bread and lemon bars.

The cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children under 10.

Farmer Joe Callens has a museum of antique farm machinery and equipment at the ranch, 11180 Talbert Avenue.

Callens’ museum houses antique farm-equipment exhibit includes a 1908 lima bean threshing machine, which took 62 people to operate, and horse-drawn farming equipment.

Reservations are necessary and can be made by calling Chet Henry of the Historical Society at (714) 775-5460.

People must bring their own plates, knives and forks. Bowls for the beans will be provided.
