President Clinton announced Friday that he has chosen Ann Winkelman Brown, a longtime consumer rights activist, to head the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Brown has been vice president of the Consumer Federation of America since 1980. She also has been chairman of the board of Public Voice, a consumer advocacy group focusing on health and nutrition issues, since 1983.

In announcing his selection, Clinton said that Brown has “worked tirelessly to improve consumer product safety in America.”
