Stone Temple Pilots have just shot a video for the upcoming single “Creep” with Gus Van Sant (“My Own Private Idaho” and “Drugstore Cowboy”) directing on location at the Harry Houdini estate in L.A. The band hopes to have the clip to MTV early next month and is planning to start production on a second album after the end of the year, with a spring release tentatively scheduled. . . .

The Alice in Chains mostly acoustic EP “Jar of Flies” (named after a high school science project by guitarist Jerry Cantrell) is due Jan. 11. The song titles: “Rotten Apple,” “Nutshell,” “I Stay Away,” “Whale and Wasp,” “No Excuses,” “Don’t Follow” and “Swing on This.” A full new album is planned for summer release. . . .

Former agent and current American Recordings executive Marc Geiger has rejoined the “Lollapalooza” team. He and the alternative-rock tour’s other co-founders--Perry Farrell, his manager Ted Gardner and William Morris agent Don Muller--are already setting up meetings with potential headliners for next year, with expectations that “Lollapalooza ‘94” will be more eclectic and adventurous than ‘93’s version. . . .

A long-form concert video from Pete Townshend’s recent “PsychoDerelict” tour is due late next month. Meanwhile, he and his Who mates are mulling possible ways to celebrate the group’s 30th anniversary next year. A special concert with pay-per-view broadcast is one option being considered. . . . The enigmatic Enigma--the German act that made Gregorian chants hip--has a new album, “The Cross of Changes,” due in January. . . .

Steve Winwood’s new album, recorded in Ireland, is due in February. . . . Rap group Das EFX’s “Straight Up Sewaside,” the follow-up to its million-selling debut “Dead Serious,” is scheduled for mid-November. . . .

Guitarist Ritchie Kotzen, fired recently from Poison, has signed a solo deal with Geffen Records. . . . Jackson Browne and Jennifer Warnes both do guest background vocals on an album by American Indian poet-rocker John Trudell, due from Ryko in January. . . . Ryko will also release a two-CD David Bowie anthology, “The Singles: 1969 to 1993,” on Nov. 16. . . .

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Etta James is doing an album of Billie Holiday material with jazz veteran Cedar Walton arranging the tracks. James also duets with Taj Mahal on the old “Mockingbird” on Mahal’s new album, “Dancing the Blues.” . . .

Sass Jordan is working on a new album, tentatively due in early ’94. Young hotshot guitarist Ian Moore has recorded guest spots on two songs.
