DOWNTOWN : Ford Hotel Ordered to Beef Up Security
A Superior Court judge last week imposed tight security at the Ford Hotel, described by police as the worst drug-trafficking spot in Central Los Angeles.
The injunction will remain in effect pending trial of a narcotics abatement lawsuit filed by the city attorney’s office against the hotel owners, Michail and Sophia Kishner of Beverly Hills and Peter and Innes Kaminsky of Hollywood.
The injunction, issued by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert H. O’Brien, requires the owners to install an intercom entry system, hire licensed security guards and ensure that rooms are locked when not in use. It also stipulates that guests produce valid identification before entering the building at 1000 E. 7th St.
Violation of the injunction could result in fines, jail sentences and closure of the hotel, said Assistant City Atty. Mary Clare Molidor.
“There is nothing wrong with the hotel,” said Michail Kishner. “The police are making a big deal out of nothing.”
Since the beginning of 1992, police said more than 60 narcotics-related arrests have been made at the hotel, and about $120,000 worth of drugs and $80,000 in cash seized.
