LA HABRA : Medical Building’s Construction OKd

Share

City Council members last week decided to allow construction of a three-story medical office building, which is an expansion of Friendly Hills Regional Medical Center.

The Council voted 4-1 for the project, calling it a gain for the community.

Juan M. Garcia, who voted against the new building, said he was concerned that it would generate traffic in nearby residential areas. The offices are at 501 Idaho St., just north of Lambert Road.

As part of its application, Friendly Hills HealthCare Network commissioned a traffic study that concluded traffic impact on neighboring streets would be minute.

Construction is to begin by March.

The new office will house administration services, freeing up space at the medical center’s main site on Beach Boulevard for more patients and doctors, officials said. More than 100 administrators and other staff members will work at the new site.

“I think it will be a real asset for the community and will bring jobs,” Councilman James Flora said.

Friendly Hills must now present architectural designs to the city for review.
