Wilson vs. Prop. 174

Share

Gov. Wilson is wrong. Prop. 174 will be good for California. The report he cites of Prop. 174 costing at least $1 billion over three years is based on an assumption that no public school student will transfer to private or parochial schools. It also fails to explain that as more public school students begin to use vouchers, they will create a net savings to the state and, more importantly, to the taxpayers.

Wilson, who claims philosophical support for parental choice in education and for vouchers, has sold out. He is counting on the votes of the public education bureaucracy when his bid for reelection comes up next year.

Wilson has been drowning in a sea of his own political undoing and is badly in need of a life preserver. Now he hopes that the one thrown by the anti-174 faction will save him. Most people agree that the public education system is a leaking boat. I say let Wilson go down with the boat!
