San Clemente Teen Moved to Anaheim Hospital

Steve Woods, the 17-year-old San Clemente High School student who was speared in the head with a paint-roller rod, was transferred from Mission Viejo to Kaiser Permanente’s Anaheim facility, officials said.

Spokeswomen for both hospitals emphasized that while Woods had stabilized to the point that he could be transported by ambulance on Wednesday, his condition and survival prospects are essentially unchanged.

Woods had been listed in critical condition at Children’s Hospital at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center, according to spokeswoman Andrea Pronk.

At Kaiser Permanente, he was listed as “serious” Thursday, but he is still on full life supports in the intensive care unit, spokeswoman Mona Ziada said. The reason for the transfer, Ziada said, is that the Woodses are Kaiser members.

Woods was attacked by a group of teen-agers Oct. 15 as he and a group of friends were leaving Calafia Beach County Park.
