PALMDALE : Forum on Big Increases in Property Taxes Set
Reacting to complaints by property owners that they received excessive or erroneous tax bills, Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich will hold a community forum at 7 p.m. Monday at the Palmdale Cultural Center. Members of the Assessment Appeals Committee will be available to answer questions.
Hundreds of property owners, living mostly on large lots in remote areas, have had their tax bills increase this year by hundreds or thousands of dollars because of a new assessment district that will generate $48 million a year for parks and recreation facilities.
Antonovich said 139 people so far have requested that the county review tax bills that rose as much as $21,000 from the previous year. County officials have said property owners must still pay the first installment by Dec. 10 or be subject to penalties.
