FULLERTON : Arboretum to Offer Tips on Composting

Share

To encourage recycling, the Fullerton Arboretum is offering public workshops on home composting.

Associate City Planner George Buell said that about 30% of waste discarded in residential neighborhoods is “green waste”--lawn, plant and tree clippings. That material can be composted to keep it out of the county dumps, he said.

The 90-minute workshops will offer hands-on demonstrations of composting and mulching. Teachers will also explain what materials cannot be composted and point out potential problems.

The workshops, which are open to the public, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday and at 1 p.m. Nov. 13. Fullerton residents who attend may buy $20 composting bins from MG Disposal, the city’s trash collector. Participants will also learn how to make their own home-composting bins.

Registration for the workshops is required, and a $5 donation is requested. For more information, call the arboretum at (714) 773-3579.

The arboretum is at 1900 Associated Road, on the Cal State Fullerton campus.
