An Oxnard woman who helped raise funds for construction of the new St. John’s Regional Medical Center has been named to head the hospital’s fund- raising operations.

As director of fund development, Nancy Covarrubias Gill will oversee operations of the hospital’s two fund-raising foundations--for St. John’s Regional Medical Center and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital.

Gill, 32, joined St. John’s in 1985 as a development assistant after working in the Oxnard city manager’s office. After the St. John’s Foundation was formed in 1988, she helped raise $6 million for construction of the hospital’s new facility in east Oxnard.

As the hospital’s former director of special events, Gill was responsible for many of the hospital’s principal fund-raisers, including the M*A*S*H parties, annual Humanitarian dinners and the Invitational Golf Classic at Sherwood Country Club. She later served as the hospital’s director of development.

An Oxnard native, Gill attended Santa Clara High School, Oxnard College and Sawyer Business School.

Gill serves on the board of the Oxnard Women’s Club after being the group’s president from 1990 to 1992 and has been a leader in the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce and Ventura County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Gill was selected Oxnard’s Young Woman of the Year in 1990.
