Wilson Appoints Michael Pickett Warden at Vacaville
Gov. Pete Wilson appointed Michael Pickett, a Chino prison warden and former correctional officer, as warden of Vacaville’s California Medical Facility on Thursday.
Pickett, 48, started his corrections career as an officer at San Quentin Prison in 1969. He worked at prisons in Norco, Susanville, San Rafael and at state Corrections Department headquarters in Sacramento before becoming warden at the California Institute for Men in Chino in August, 1992.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in police administration from Cal State L.A. in 1973.
A Republican, he will earn $79,764 a year. The appointment requires Senate confirmation.
