* Re “Donors Give L.A. Cause to Be Glad--and Wary,” Oct. 27:
Our city is in no condition to refuse anything. We need help and we should accept it from anyone who sincerely offers it. Not everyone gives in order to receive favors, as some of our politicians may fear. Not everyone has ulterior motives.
What you see is what you be. What I see are honest people--individuals, large corporations, small business owners--who finally have a mayor they can trust and who want to be a part of rebuilding L.A. I think their reasons for giving are based on an almost forgotten tradition, that is, simple Judeo-Christian ethics--you give because you care. Yes, my dear council people, there are still a few of us left out here and if you don’t mind we’d like to help.
So go ahead, Mayor Richard Riordan, accept everything that is offered that our city needs and we shall all be thankful. And when this city is back on its feet and no “favors” have been granted, let the politicians sit back and scratch their heads saying they don’t understand--they never will.
