Penn’s Stokes Runs for 272 Yards to Lead Quakers Over Princeton

Terrance Stokes rushed for a school-record 272 yards and a touchdown in 42 carries Saturday as Penn defeated Princeton, 30-14, in a battle of unbeaten Ivy League teams.

Penn took advantage of early turnovers to build a quick lead as Jim McGeehan passed for 154 yards and two touchdowns to Chris Brassell.

Penn (8-0, 5-0) can win its first Ivy League championship since 1988 with victories over Harvard and Cornell.

Princeton (7-1, 4-1) was unable to mount a consistent attack as Penn limited Ivy League rushing leader Keith Elias to 59 yards in 15 carries. Elias entered the game with 1,286 rushing yards.

Penn struck quickly when Princeton’s Joel Foote fumbled the snap on the third play from scrimmage. Three plays later, McGeehan completed a 30-yard scoring pass to Brassell, giving Penn a 7-0 lead after only 1:44.

After the second of Princeton’s eight fumbles, Penn drove 82 yards in 13 plays for its second touchdown. Stokes ran untouched up the middle from seven yards out to make it 14-0 with 13 minutes to play in the half.
