LOS ANGELES HARBOR : Tentative Pact Reached in Security Guards’ Strike
- Share via
A tentative settlement was reached Wednesday after a one-day strike by security guards that halted about 70% of the loading and unloading of ships in the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.
More than 50 security guards belonging to the International Longshoremen’s and Warehousemen’s Union set up picket lines at seven terminals in the Los Angeles-Long Beach Harbor on Tuesday, officials said. Members of other locals of the union refused to cross the picket lines.
Terms of the settlement between the Pacific Maritime Assn., which represents waterfront employers, and the guards were not immediately disclosed. A primary issue had been the assignment of work previously done by union members to non-union guards.
