Design for Federal Duck Stamp Is Won by Nebraska Artist

The federal duck stamp for the 1994-95 hunting season will feature a red-breasted, red-eyed waterfowl drawn by a Nebraska artist, the Fish and Wildlife Service announced Wednesday.

People who hunt ducks and geese must purchase a duck stamp permit each year for $15. The design is selected in a government contest, and the stamps become collector’s items. Revenue from the sales helps support national wildlife refuges.

This year’s winner was Neal Anderson of Lincoln, who also won the contest in 1988. His design this year was a red-breasted merganser, sometimes called a shelduck or sawbill. It has red eyes, feet and legs and a slender serrated bill. It breeds in the Arctic.
